Isaiah 25:4 amongst other things describes God as “…a shade from the heat…” and this is the crux of today’s post.

One of the most beautiful things about God is the fact that He cannot be put in a box. He can present Himself in innumerable forms at any given time. A more beautiful thing about Him is the fact that He is all that He is, all at once. He doesn’t take the form of ‘Our Help In Times of Trouble‘ one minute, then stops being that so that He can be ‘Our Strength‘ the next. He exists in the fullness of His innumerable forms all at once.

However at different points in our lives we get to know or become aware of a form of God through either studying His word or a personal or shared experience and that is why it is often said that ‘God means different things to different people’.

Literally, a shade from the heat refers to anything you can stand/sit under that gives you relief and allows you to cool off from the heat of the sun. When I read that verse (Isaiah 24:5), I imagined God as a huge and tall mahogany tree with thick and wide-reaching branches. Such trees can be referred to as ‘Breeze Central’ because no matter how intensely scorching the sun is, the atmosphere under the tree will always be cool and refreshing. What an amazing shade that would make on an incredibly hot and sunny day (which by the way is almost everyday in Lagos and Abuja).

Life in all its splendour can get overwhelming. You might be faced with a task and might have planned how to execute it but out of nowhere something throws a wrench in your plans or somehow things don’t work out as you have imagined and the task becomes increasingly difficult by the day or starts to even seem unachievable. Life can also be very dissapointing. You set out to achieve a certain thing at a certain time but events happen that throw you off and make it seem like you’re just walking on an endless road of failed attempts and thwarted hopes and dreams with no end in sight and with each step feeling heavier than the last.

The message today is that no matter what you are going through right now or at any point in time and no matter how overwhelmed you may feel as a result of any stressful or disappointing situation caused by your spiritual life, health, family, money, relationships,
academics, job or lack of, I’d like you to know that God is a shade from the heat and He is ready to be Your Shade From The Heat Of Life only if you would let Him. All that is required is that you get out of the sun and get under His shade.

Prayer Point: Father, help me to always know that you are a shade from the heat. Concerning this situation (mention whatever it is that you’re currently going through or dealing with), help me to find shade, relief, calm and comfort in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you do not know God and by this I mean, if you have never given your life to Christ or have but over time things have gotten blurry (it happens) then say this simple prayer:

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ, Your son. I confess and forsake my sins and I ask that You forgive me. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and that You raised Him from the dead. I receive Him now as my personal Lord and Saviour. Thank you for saving me and because now my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
